Night Porter vacancy at The Hotel Folk's Suffolk coast properties including The The Brudenell and The White Lion, Aldeburgh and Thorpeness Golf Club and Hotel
The Brudenell Hotel and The White Lion Hotel are a short drive/walk from each other, with The Brudenell at the far end of Aldeburgh high street and The White Lion on the Market Cross Place in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Thorpeness Golf Club and Hotel is a little further up the coast, approximately 6 minutes drive from The White Lion. The successful applicant will be required to work in each hotel depending on where they are required each shift. Please note, you will not be required to move between hotels during any shift.
Hourly Pay - £11 per hour
Overall Job Purpose:
To provide all guests and potential guests with friendly, efficient customer service at all times, ensuring everybody receives a positive first impression of the hotel. To carry out night porter procedures accurately and efficiently within the department.
Main Responsibilities:
Customer Focus:
- Respond to guest and customer requests courteously and efficiently at all times.
- Answer in-coming telephone calls within four rings.
- Take accurate reservation enquiries.
- Ensure that the reception area is kept clean, tidy and free from rubbish/clutter at all times.
- Be aware of all arrivals and departures, functions, special events and special requests.
- Respond to any special requests accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure that information relating to special requests or requirements is immediately passed on to other relevant departments.
Administration:
- Carry out all tasks and procedures in accordance with the procedures manual.
- Record any transactions accurately for room accounts
- Ensure that all guests complete a registration card on arrival.
- Ensure that all requests for wake up calls and newspapers are met and that charges are recorded accordingly.
- Keep the daily day book/handover diary up-to-date.
- Complete all checklists on a daily basis.
- Report and record any maintenance issues accurately and efficiently.
Deliver an efficient and friendly guest experience:
- Get to know regular guest’s preferences and their specials needs.
- Offer guests assistance with their luggage.
- Bid all guests a fond farewell.
Ensure the hotel is clean and tidy:
- Adopt a 'clean as you go' attitude at all times.
- Ensure that the foyer and entrance of the hotel is kept clean and tidy at all times.
- Use the correct chemicals for cleaning jobs.
- Follow the cleaning schedule and sign off on jobs as required.
- Keep equipment clean and hygienic at all times.
- Respond quickly to spills and accidents.
Delivering high standards for guests at all times:
- Follow all company procedures correctly.
- Know the Fire procedures, and ensure that you have good knowledge of the evacuation procedures.
- Follow all health and hygiene procedures correctly.
Special Requirements:
- Wear a uniform.
- Be able to work flexibly – working shifts, weekends and bank holidays when required.
- Be willing to cover in other hotels within the group when needed.
Other Responsibilities:
- You will be required to serve drinks in the bar to resident guests outside of usual bar hours. All drinks dispensed should be charged to rooms, if resident guests wish to pay by cash, they can do so in the morning at reception.
- Cleaning duties throughout the ground floor area, ladies, gents restrooms, entrance staircases as per duty checklist and back of house areas.
- Duly complete checklist and handover to the AM Duty Manager.
- To complete handover with authorised member of staff before leaving the hotel/ending your shift.
- You will be required to patrol the hotel corridors at hourly intervals for the duration of your shift.
- You will be required to patrol the hotel exterior at least twice a night.
- Follow lock up procedure as efficiently and precisely as possible.
- Serving tea, coffee, providing a room service facility for beverages.
- Enter early morning calls.
- Collect room service orders from the hotel doors before 6am – and hand over to the breakfast supervisor.
- Assist in breakfast preparation as per checklist provided.
- All Night Porter checklists must be signed off and handed to the Duty Manager for checking.

The job holder may also, from time to time, be asked to undertake other tasks and responsibilities which are not listed in this job description but which are commensurate with the post.
